Florence And The Machine - Dog Days Empty Florence And The Machine - Dog Days

After the wonderful 'Kiss With A Fist', the dynamic and exciting Florence and the Machine celebrate their place on next year’s NME Awards tour line up with this belter of a single. The tour itself is seen as an indicator for the bands set to make a splash in the year ahead, and here’s hoping it does the trick for this fabulously talented South London singer.

Florence Welch has one hell of a voice and uses it to full effect on ‘Dog Days Are Over’, which plays with the traditional verse-chorus-verse-chorus pattern to create a song of two halves. The song begins with an intricate acoustic beginning, before building and building along with the volume of Florence’s stunning voice and coming to a crescendo at the half way mark.

A moment of silence gives the listener a breather before the onslaught begins again building to another stunning climax when Florence’s voice hits incredible heights. The b-side to this single is another treat, with the over-covered ‘You Got the Love’ by The Source featuring Candi Staton getting another airing, but in the hands of Florence and the Machine it is by far the best version to date.

Working with the likes of Kid Harpoon and Dev from Lightspeed Champion should make for an interesting debut album from the talented Londoner; her prominent emergence next year should be guaranteed.
