The Cure score four singles in US Top 20/Robert Smith: Don't buy the new Cure EP
The Cure have scored an impressive feat in the US this week, with four singles charting in the Billboard Top 20 single sales chart.
Four singles released over the last four months are currently in the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot Singles Sales chart: ‘Perfect Boy (Mix 13)’ is at Number Eight, ‘Sleep When I’m Dead (Mix 13)’ sits at Number 12, ‘Freakshow (Mix 13)’ scored the 13th position and ‘The Only One (Mix 13)’ attained the Number 18 spot.
An EP of remixes of these first four singles will be released digitally and on CD next week.
As previously reported, My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way, Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump are among the acts who have contributed to the ‘Hypnagogic States’ remix EP, set to be released September 16.
All artist royalties from the EP will benefit the International Red Cross.
The Cure are currently gearing up for the release of their 13th studio album ‘4:13 Dream’, coming out October 28 via Suretone/Geffen Records.

Quite popular over there again.
Re: The Cure score four singles in US Top 20/Robert Smith: Don't buy the new Cure EP
The Cure's new remix EP, Hypnagogic States, is now on sale - but the band's frontman isn't happy about it. Robert Smith unleashed a rant on his blog this week, complaining that the label had "fuck[ed] this up to another level," selling the EP for more money than it was worth.
"IT IS ABSURD!" he wrote in an all-caps blurt. "PLEASE DONT BUY HYPNAGOGIC STATES EP FROM ITUNES FOR £7.99."
The recording in question collects remixes of the Cure's recent singles, by emo artists including AFI, 30 Seconds to Mars and Fall Out Boy. All proceeds go to the International Red Cross. "It's fab and the money ... is going to a good cause," Smith underlined, but "please only buy this 5-track EP from iTunes when it is available for around £4.00 or less and you get the free [65 Days of Static] remix [as well]."
Smith copied fans on the letter he sent to "TMU" (The Man Upstairs) earlier this week, sparing no language for the anonymous label honcho. It begins like an ee cummings poem.
"DEAR...
I FUCKING DESPAIR
AGAIN"
While the complete letter is below, Smith also weighed in on the Cure message-board to explain why their forthcoming LP had been pushed back from October 13 to October 28 – nixing their handsome 13th-of-the-month release pattern. "The sad reality is that far from embracing my 13th concept (despite my best efforts), the mighty [label] have chosen to totally ignore it as they schedule their releases around a USA Tuesday ... and business is business," he wrote, albeit with fewer lowercase letters.
Robert Smith's complete open letter:
DEAR...
I FUCKING DESPAIR
AGAIN
HYPNAGOGIC STATES EP IS NOW UP ON UK ITUNES...
5 TRACKS FOR £7.99?
FOR FUCKS SAKE!
AND THE PACKAGE IS COMPLETEY MISSING THE EXTRA BONUS TRACK (65DOS ALT REMIX OF "THE ONLY ONE")
SO
YOU CAN BUY THE FOUR REMIXES BY 30STM/AFI/MCR/FOB INDIVIDUALLY FOR 79P EACH...
BUT YOU ONLY GET THE 65DOS "EXPLODING HEAD SYNDROME" REMIX OF ALL FOUR SINGLES IF YOU PAY £7.99 FOR "THE ALBUM"...
IE YOU ARE BEING ASKED TO PAY £4.83 FOR THE 65DOS REMIX... !!!
WHO THE FUCK IS GOING TO PAY THIS AND NOT FEEL TOTALLY RIPPED OFF?
IT'S NOT A FUCKING ALBUM!
IT'S A 5 TRACK EP
AND YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO GET AN EXTRA FREE TRACK (THE 65DOS REMIX OF "THE ONLY ONE") IF YOU BUY IT AS A 5 TRACK EP
AND ITS SUPPOSED TO COST LESS IF YOU BUY IT AS A 5 TRACK EP THAN IF YOU BUY THE 5 TRACKS INDIVIDUALLY...
THAT IS WHAT WAS AGREED
THIS IS SO TOTALLY WRONG
I REALLY DO FUCKING DESPAIR
WHY IS IT SO INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO GET ANYTHING DONE RIGHT?
PLEASE FIX THIS
