Feargal Sharkey to quiz fans with UK Music Survey
Former Undertones frontman Feargal Shakey, head of music industry umbrella group UK Music, has launched a new survey – the results of which he hopes will help shape the music industry in the future.
Sharkey is asking for music fans aged 16-24 to head to www.ukmusicsurvey.com to complete an online questionnaire about how they listen to and buy music. He says the results will be passed on to industry chiefs, the British government and the media in order to help shape the industry.
As an incentive those who enter will be entered in a prize draw to win prizes including festival tickets, an iPod Touch and computer games.
Sharkey told NME.COM he had launched the survey because the music industry is changing so quickly, it is important to be up-to-date with music fans' thoughts.
"Changes to the ways in which music is recorded, experienced, consumed and shared have been unprecedented over recent years - whether that's Radiohead's tip jar experiment for 'In Rainbows' or the emergence of new digital services," he explained.
"For the music fan, this is all fantastic. There has never been more choice. Creativity thrives off innovation and entrepreneurialism, and those who connect artists with their fans - what we know as 'the music industry' - must react to these changes.
"Which is why this survey is so important. It offers a unique chance for music lovers aged 14 to 24 to express their opinions, to tell us their likes and dislikes, and to do their bit in shaping music's future."
Head to www.ukmusicsurvey.com to complete the survey.
