The Count & Sinden - Hardcore Girls
What does it take to get signed to Domino? Well, experience obviously isn't necessary, as the label signed duo the Count & Sinden soon after they formed earlier this year. Thanks to a guest appearance by Kid Sister on their mini-sensation, novelty-ringing single, "Beeper," the London producers quickly found a home for their catchy club tunes.
Sliding in somewhere between UK garage and its (arguable) offshoots bass line and grime, with a bit of Baltimore club thrown in for good measure, the Count & Sinden basically just round up whatever they need to balance out the most ballistic banger. It helps that they have a way with the ladies, and for their latest single — the title track to their forthcoming EP for Domino (out October 13) — the boys have snagged M.I.A. tour-mate, Diplo/Blaqstarr muse and up-and-coming B-more MC Rye Rye (aka Ryeisha Berrain), who just recently signed a deal of her own with Interscope.
The NSFW-named "Hardcore Girls" is reportedly being sold as "the sound of the much hyped Baltimore breaks scene, evolved displaced and mutated as only the Count & Sinden know how," which in layman's terms means these two are putting their own spin on sounds we've all bumped to in recent nights. While it doesn't have the communicable hook and novelty sell that made "Beeper" such a sensation, Rye Rye's uniqueness blows Kid Sis's rather tame flow outta the club. Her helium pitch is childlike and fresh, making it quite clear why producers are killing to get her spittin' on their tunes. I can see this song causing a major riot in the right atmosphere and at the very least, starting a minor dance craze with Rye Rye's adorably spontaneous moves.
