How different is starring in EastEnders to other dramas and soaps?
Iíve done two series of Burn it , Shameless, Holby Blue, Holby City and The Bill, so Iíve been in a few TV roles. What is different about EastEnders for me is that Iíve never worked so concentrated on a built set before. Youíll get on set at, like, 8.30am and then do one scene after another in the same location. Youíve got five cameras on you. In other films and series Iíve done, youíve got one or two cameras on you at the most.

An EastEnders storyline about a character's relationship with his 15-year-old stepdaughter has prompted more than 200 complaints.

In last Friday's show, Tony King arrived in Albert Square after spending a year in jail and was shown passionately kissing Whitney Dean.

The BBC has received 163 complaints and Ofcom received 41 about the storyline.

The BBC said the plot had been created "in association with the NSPCC" and in accordance with its editorial policy.

Friday's pre-watershed show was watched by a peak audience of eight million viewers.

The storyline suggests King - played by Chris Coghill - manipulated Dean - played by Shona McGarty - into a relationship before being sent to prison.

On last week's show, viewers saw him sneak into her bedroom while girlfriend Bianca Jackson, played by Patsy Palmer, took a bath.

The two then kissed, before falling onto the teenager's bed.

A BBC spokeswoman said: "EastEnders has a rich heritage of tackling difficult social issues, such as domestic violence and mental health.

"Our current storyline about child abuse is another such issue which had been created in association with the NSPCC and in accordance with BBC editorial policy."

At the end of August, the BBC received 156 complaints over scenes showing character Jase Dyer being attacked by a criminal gang and then lying dead in hospital.

At the time, the BBC said the violence was "implied rather than explicit", but admitted some viewers had found the scenes "uncomfortable".

'Enders baby axed over travel costs

One of EastEnders' youngest actors has been axed in order to cut back on travelling costs.

Gabriel Miller Williams, who plays Max (Jake Wood) and Tanya Branning's (Jo Joyner) son Oscar, has been dropped from the part after his £300-a-day taxi fare from his family home in Leigh-on-Sea in Essex to the BBC soap's studios in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, was seen as an excessive expense.

The 10-month-old's mother Claire Miller, 39, claims that she only discovered that her son had lost the part when his usual taxi failed to collect him, despite having signed what she believed to be a six-month contract.

She told The Mirror: "It's a disgusting way to treat people. We still haven't had a call explaining why he was sacked. I've sent his contract to solicitors to investigate legal action."

However, a spokeswoman for the Walford-based soap said: "It is not unusual for babies to be recast several times in continuing drama series such as EastEnders. In this instance the decision to recast at this time was in part due to Gabriel's travelling costs."

She added: "As the BBC strives to deliver value for money across all its productions, travel costs are a factor that must be considered."

The BBC this afternoon confirmed to DS that long-term contracts are not issued to babies or children. Instead, performance licences are granted by the local authority to allow those subject to such a licence to be booked on an 'as-and-when-needed' basis.

It is understood that the production team at EastEnders are now looking for a more local baby to take on the role.

Lynda Baron returns to 'EastEnders'

Open All Hours actress Lynda Baron is to reprise her Walford role as Linda Collins later this year.

The 66-year-old, who played Nurse Gladys Emanuel in the BBC comedy, has already returned to filming as Jane Beale's (Laurie Brett) and Christian Clarke's (John Partridge) mother for a storyline which will reveal more about the family's history.

A source told Inside Soap: "We're very excited to have Lynda back with us. The last time Linda was around, in late 2006, we found out that Jane used to be called Lesley and had a darker past than anyone realised."

They added: "More skeletons may be unearthed this time, and the dynamic between Linda and Christian should be interesting, too."

Her return to Albert Square will appear on screen in late October or early November.

Shabnam Masood actress quits 'Enders

EastEnders actress Zahra Ahmadi has quit the Walford-based soap after just over a year on screen, amid claims that she was frustrated by a lack of storylines for her character.

The 29-year-old, who plays Shabnam Masood in the BBC show, has taken the decision to leave in order to pursue other projects.

Speaking of her decision to leave, she said: "I've made the tough decision to leave as I'm still young and I want to try other roles. But I'm really happy the door has been left open for me to return as it has been a great experience."

Executive producer Diederick Santer added: "Zahra is a fine actress, even though she's leaving, the door is always open for her to return. The Masood family have been a great addition to Albert Square so there's plenty more to come from them in future."

A source this morning told DS: "Zahra's leaving slightly earlier than expected, but the rest of the Masoods are sticking around and they've got some big stuff coming up in the autumn."

Shabnam turned up in the Square with her screen mother Zainab Masood (Nina Wadia) in July last year, while her father Masood (Nitin Ganatra) and brother Tamwar (Himesh Patel) arrived three months later in the October
