David Bowie's 'Ziggy Stardust' voted 'gayest album ever'

Post by Baz on Fri Sep 12, 2008 5:30 am

David Bowie's 1972 album 'The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars' has been voted the gayest album of all time by a panel of "gay experts".

Out.com polled a panel including Boy George, Rufus Wainwright and Cyndi Lauper to determine the 100 most homosexual albums of all time, with Bowie's effort emerging as Number One.

According to the compilers, albums included were "not only records by queer musicians but also any records that have had relevance to those voting".

The Smiths, Tracy Chapman and Madonna also made the top ten.

As Manic Street Preachers' Richey Edwards once scrawled on his T-shirt, "All rock'n'roll is homosexual".

In recognition of that fact, Out.com have polled a panel of "gay experts", including Boy George, Rufus Wainwright and Cyndi Lauper, with a view to compiling a list of the "greatest, gayest albums of all time".

Some of the choices are surprising, largely because the compilers opted to include, "not only records by queer musicians but also any records that have had relevance to those voting."

Hence straight acts such as Jeff Buckley and Nirvana rub shoulders with the likes of Queen and Antony And The Johnsons.

Here's their Top 100. You can read more about their criteria for inclusion at Out.com.

This panel know fuck all. Bronski Beat: The Age of Consent at 59!!!!!!

The members were gay.

Jimmy sang like a gay.

One of the songs, "Need a Man Blues" is about being a gay.

One of the songs, "Smalltown Boy" is about being picked on for being a gay.

One of the songs is from the musical Porgy and Bess. Musicals are gay.

The inside cover of the album showing the "age of consent" for homosexual loving in countries around the world. Double gay.

I challenge you to find a gayer album.

Infact, if you are going to have a Nirvana album then it should be Unplugged as when they played they were surrounded with flowers, and that is a bit gay.

I think with Queen it was down to the fact that most straight men found Roger Taylor cute in the video for I want to break free.
